My radio debut

Today was my radio debut, I was interviewed by an old friend Denise Oliver, who I met during my Nutritional Healing Foundation training, on Calon FM a community radio programme.  I will put the links so you can listen again, but its only available for 7 days, both shows aired on 2nd October and I will give the links below;



I have to say I had a great time and really enjoyed being on the radio, the time went really quickly and Denise and I chatted about my journey through Nutritional Healing and into wellness coaching.

When I did my training as a coach, I had to submit a 'project' as part of my final piece.  At the time I was going through divorce after nearly 25 years of marriage with two teenage girls.  I looked into divorce and how coaching could help the process, my experience was that during my coach training I had used my coaching techniques and sailed fairly unscathed through the process.  As I did my research I came across the Elizabeth Kubler-Ross diagram of grief, it fitted so well into divorce.

Six week wellness coaching course

So I have just finished a 6 week wellness coaching course at my home in North Wales.  We had great fun in week one with energy foods - we juiced the fruit and vegetables shown to see how we can energise our bodies by alkalising juices.  We also made lovely chia pudding (shown below) and shared lots of ideas to incorporate good nutrition into our everyday lives.  Energy exercises followed with simple movements using yoga and chi kung to help the energy flow more through or bodies - simple morning routines were discovered.

On Friday evening I was lucky enough to attend a workshop with David Sye from Yoga beats.  Having practised yoga for many years I had never tried yoga beats myself, however, I remember years ago being mesmerised by David Sye at the Yoga show.  David explained how he came to mix yoga and movement while teaching young kids from backgrounds of gang culture.  They couldn't keep still, so he decided maybe they had something, and began to incorporate movement, funky music and yoga with amazing results

Mindful self enquiry

So today during our meditation we looked at mindful self enquiry, so what does this mean?  Over the weekend I was with a group of people who talked about meditation and 'emptying your mind'.  I came to mindfulness after years of believing that it was indeed about emptying your mind, mine is always so busy I could never achieve that.  When I found mindfulness I learnt that it was indeed about 'watching your thoughts or feelings' as to empty your mind in this time of so much 'stuff' is impossible!

Energy foods

So how do we take good care of ourselves at this time of year?  The nights are darker, the days are colder and we are wanting to hibernate.  Our energy is lower during the winter months so one way we can gain more energy is to use living foods - sprouted beans and lentils.  But I just want to eat soups and casseroles, I hear you say (this is for those living in the UK and colder climates), so how can you incorporate more living foods?  One simple tip is to add sprouts to soups when serving, add them to salads and use a grated ginger dressing or chilli to add some heat.
